Why use WebP instead of JPG?

Does converting to WebP lose quality?
Converting re-encodes the image, so in principle there is a small generational change — but at sensible quality settings it is invisible. You can push the quality higher if you want to be conservative, or lower it if squeezing the file matters more than perfect fidelity.
